28 Years Later Trailer Sees Shock Cillian Murphy Twist

Set three decades into the future Danny Boyle’s zombie franchise is getting a third instalment and the first teaser trailer has been released today along with a very shocking Cillian Murphy return.

28 Years Later Poster

Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award®-nominated writer Alex Garland reunite for 28 Years Later, a terrifying new story set in the world created by 28 days later.

It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still, in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway.

When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

Murphy starred in the 2002 movie 28 Days Later which helped to catapult his career. In the film, he played a character called Jim who woke from a coma to find the UK had been overtaken by zombies.

Murphy recently won an Oscar for his leading role in the movie Oppenheimer.

It doesn’t take long before we see Murphy on screen in the upcoming 28 Years Later sequel but it looks as though things didn’t go too well for bicycle courier Jim because a zombie in the opening sequence of the trailer looks remarkably like Cillian.

Cillian Murphy Zombie

A zombie Cillian Murphy wasn’t what I had on my 2024 bingo list but here we are.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes are all set to star in 28 Years Later and if the trailer is anything to go by, we’re in for a flesh frenzied treat!

The trailer is very brief on the details but a recording of a poem recital and seeing all of the silky shots for the film it’s surprising to me that 28 Years Later was shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Films tend to use this as a marketing tool until you see behind-the-scenes shots where the phone is hooked up to something that costs 100 times the price of a standard handset. I’ll reserve judgment on that little marketing spiel for now.
