Controversial Phillip Schofield Cast Away Show Announced

A Phillip Schofield Cast Away style show has been announced as the former TV presenter will be appearing in a new series after leaving This Morning 16 months ago amid controversy.

Channel 5’s Cast Away will be a 3-part series (60 minutes per episode) that will air from Monday 30th September to Wednesday 2nd October at 9pm. The show will follow Schofield as he is cast away for ten days on an unpopulated island off the coast of Madagascar.

It’s on this island that Phillip can confront total isolation against the forces of nature and battles with his own mind as he dives into the controversy that cost him one of TV’s hottest jobs.

With a handheld camera and no crew or production team in sight, Phillip has recorded his journey for our viewing pleasure.

Without a camera crew or production team, he has recorded his journey himself with a handheld camera, body camera and a sound pack.

Schofield said:

This is most definitely a first for me and the only thing I felt compelled to do. It appealed to me on so many levels.

I’ve recently had a lot of time to think about my life, what went right and what went wrong, but I’ve always had the safe arms of friends and family wrapped around me. This time it’s just me, no ‘phone, no comforts, no crew and only lip balm as a luxury.

I’m looking forward to exploring the island, trying to tie knots to secure my shelter and foraging and fending for myself in the wild with no help.

Maybe I’ll be Robinson Crusoe, or maybe I’ll just be Tom Hanks’ Wilson and quietly drift off into the wild blue yonder.

I’m not quite sure who sold the idea of putting Phillip on an island of all places for the purpose of a 3-part TV programme but the one thing that this show will get, regardless of the backlash, is views and in the eyes of a TV producer, ratings are king and they will not be short of viewers regardless of what anyone may think.

Having Phillip take on a physical survival after suffering a mental survival after the ordeal seems like a glutton for punishment to me and whilst no one on earth can condone his actions there’s something that he says within the trailer (see below) that strikes a chord.

“I know what I did was unwise, but is it enough to absolutely destroy someone?”

What Phillip did wasn’t anything illegal but it was ill-advised and struck a sour note with the British public. Many out of there still say disgusting things about Phillip far beyond what he has already confessed to and sadly that’s the world of social media.

The question I’ll put to you is, will you still be watching the Phillip Schofield Cast Away show?

Channel 5 Commissioning Editor, Guy Davies, says:

This isn’t just a survival challenge, it’s chance for Phillip to look back over the last explosive 18 months of his life, and explore what happened. The audience will learn how he feels now about television and the future, as well as the past. And it will be Phillip Schofield as we have never seen him before – unguarded, emotional and brutally honest….

Executive Producer and MD at Burning Bright Productions, Clive Tulloh, says:

We are very excited about this powerful and emotional series. It is much watch tv. It gives a whole new meaning to survival.
