Jim Henson’s MuppetVision 3D Closing at Walt Disney World Resort

Sad news for many Disney fans today as the company have confirmed officially that MuppetVision 3D is set to close as the Muppets Courtyard will be transformed into the new site for a brand new Monsters Inc land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But all is not lost as The Muppets will be taking over the Aerosmith Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster as confirmed by Disney in a statement today.

Monsters Inc Land Muppets Courtyard

Whilst the Monsters Inc land looks phenomenal in concept art and comes complete with an indoor suspended roller coaster attraction themed around the IP fans will feel the decision is bittersweet as a piece of Jim Henson will sadly be lost forever.

Disney has not listed a closing date but construction is set to begin in 2025 for this new land.

As one of the last projects that Jim Henson worked on before he passed away is being removed from the park fans will be sad to see this one go.

A brand new theatre show within the now-former MuppetVision 3D theatre will be lined up instead. All is not lost though as Disney has said they’re having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.

The 3D attraction was meant to be the first of many Muppets projects as at the time of his death Jim was in advanced negotiations to sell his company (including the Muppet characters) to Disney.

The deal was deemed too complicated and costly for his family after his passing and things got a little murky between the family and Disney thereafter according to reports.

Whilst The Muppets courtyard is leaving another strange announcement meant they wouldn’t be forgotten as they will now become a part of Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster where they will be teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.

Muppets Rock N Roller Coaster

Disney said on their blog:

We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster. Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!

In the meantime, there’s still enough time to catch a super-stretch limo to the Forum to enjoy Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and catch Muppet*Vision 3D again before their final curtain calls.

If the initial concepts are anything to go by there looks to be a big retheme of the ride to make it Muppets themed and that in itself will also anger Disney fans.

The Aerosmith-themed ride is an absolute Disney classic and after they gutted the one in Disneyland Paris to make way for an Iron Man ride that received a very poor guest feedback it does make you wonder why they’re trying to get rid of something that fans dearly love.

Whilst it does sound initially like The Muppets and Aerosmith will be teaming up, it just won’t be the same.
