Gale Weathers returns is the headline I’ve been waiting for this year as I’m firmly in the controversial camp of keeping Melissa Barrera away from the franchise and not for the reason you’re thinking.
I felt that Melissa wasn’t strong enough to carry the franchise, and Jenna Ortega just felt out of place too. The simple fact is, it just isn’t Scream without Neve Campbell and Gale Weathers and while Melissa’s exit was a little chaotic, to say the least, I’m fully behind Scream VII and it’ll do incredibly well with these familiar faces coming back for another round!
A Gale is heading to Woodsboro and it’s a strong one indeed and with recent news of McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) joining the cast and rumours of Matthew Lillard returning as Stu, this film is already setting itself up to be unmissable for horror fans regardless of how it’s received.
Variety reported that Courteney Cox has closed a deal to reprise her role as the reporter Gale Weathers as Scream fans are now getting very excited at what could be in store for the cast.
Rumours were swirling back in March that Cox was in talks to come back and the production team know full well the appeal that Neve and Courtenay have on-screen for Scream fans.
Funnily enough, the last movie was the highest opening weekend in the franchise’s history but I’d put that down to curiosity and fan appeal as opposed to how the film came across, which wasn’t great.
For me, it was one of the weakest in the entire franchise.
Couple the cast reunion with the controversy surrounding its release and I wouldn’t be surprised if this film eclipsed the opening weekend of its predecessor.
No plot details have been released but with newcomers Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, and Isabel May added to the cast (the last of whom is to play one of Sid’s daughters) mixed with the old school cast of solid names, coupled with a few tricks and cameos up its sleeve Scream VII could be a very exciting prospect indeed.
Scream VII will be slashing its way onto our screens on February 27th, 2026 and I hope and pray they bring our more Scream-themed popcorn buckets for this next release, they were awesome!
