One audience member who got to see the brand new Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning movie early claimed that she “almost had a heart attack” during the screening.
The final instalment (maybe) of the Mission Impossible franchise is set for a May release and we’re used to Tom Cruise going bigger, bolder and crazier in terms of stunts than ever before and it seems that at the ripe old age of 62 he’s still pushing his limits.
According to GamesRadar, Director Christopher McQuarrie recently told Empire: “We had a small screening, and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack.’ And I thought, ‘I guess we did something right.”
It’s not clear which scene was to blame for this but there is one particular underwater stunt that keeps doing the rounds in teaser footage which makes me think that could be the one responsible for this.
I know I’ll certainly be holding my breath during this particular scene as me and water aren’t the best of friends.
Watching it on the big screen knowing Tom Cruise did the stunts for real is such a beautiful thing to witness.
Long gone are the days of Hollywood stuntmen as CGI and the rest mostly took over and the stunt work that takes place now whilst still as dangerous as ever goes vastly underappreciated.
Last year saw the release of The Fall Guy which gave audiences a small glimpse into the life of a stunt man and they really deserve all the credit in the world.
Having Tom Cruise as one of the more iconic and known stuntmen out there in addition to being a leading man really puts him at the top of the game for this sort of work and that’s why these films do so well.
Tom Cruise is Mr Box Office and we cannot wait to see what this instalment has in store for us!
