Hot off the press Marlon Wayans has officially announced the release date for the upcoming Scary Movie reboot.
Marlon took to Instagram and told everyone to mark their calendars as we’re about to get a very scary date indeed!
Scary Movie was initially developed by Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans with Keenen directing and writing the first two films with Marlon and Shawn writing and starring in the first two movies.
This reboot will be the sixth film in the franchise but only the third movie they have all had a hand in.
Many fans believe that the third movie (whilst still funny in places) was the start of the downward spiral of the franchise which led to lacklustre instalments in the 4th and 5th Scary Movie.
The Wayans Brothers are the heart and soul of the Scary Movie franchise and losing their comedic wit and iconic characters such as Shawty and Ray tore the heart out of the franchise.
Fans would love to see old characters return such as fan favourite Brenda (played by Regina Hall) but no further details have been revealed at this particular moment in time.
Miramax are the studio behind the franchise and Paramount Pictures is releasing worldwide so it’ll be great to have Scary Movie potentially on the big screen once again.
Those were the days when you headed down to your local cinema to see the latest Scary Movie film and it’s great to see Paramount trying to reboot comedies as there haven’t been too many comedy releases lately with many comedians citing ‘woke culture’ as a reason for studios hesitant on producing them.
In steps the Wayans brothers who have no problem saying what they want and doing what they want and we love them for it!
Trey Parker and Matt Stone are set to release a comedy in July this year but nothing is known about it. I was hoping it was going to be Team America 2 but my dreams were crushed when they announced that it would be a live-action movie with Kendrick Lamar producing this unknown comedy.
Naked Gun is also getting a reboot with Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson set to be released in August but I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that considering it’ll NEVER live up to the Leslie Nielsen films and now we have Scary Movie.
Watch this space and roll on June 12th, 2026. Who knows what they have ins tore for us and which horror films they’ll be spoofing in this particular instalment.
