The Devil Wears Prada 2… Why?

Devil Wears Prada

As we discussed the death of original ideas in an article a few days ago as Elio delivered Pixar’s biggest ever box office flop we were served with yet another unimaginative sequel to a film that never needed a sequel in the first place, the infamous and incredible The Devil Wears Prada. Introducing The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Fashion is not my forte’ and even I absolutely loved The Devil Wears Prada and somehow always check it out whenever I see it on TV as Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep deliver an outstanding film full of heart and humour in a cutthroat industry done with such style and pizazz.

It’s a classic, why ruin it with another one?

The only positive about this absolutely pointless sequel is the return of the original cast with the addition of Kenneth Branagh who will star alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep returning as fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly.

Director David Frankel is back again for the sequel as the story will revolve around Priestly dealing with the collapse of the magazine industry who is now forced to build bridges with her one-time assistant Emily (Blunt) who heads up a luxury brand and its advertising spend.

This will be Meryl Streep’s first role since 2021’s Don’t Look Up and whilst it’ll be great to see all of these characters back on the big screen it’s just a sad state of affairs that we cannot have anything new and that reflects on both the industry and audiences in equal measure.

Industry doesn’t want to take risks and audiences can’t seem to invest themselves into a new original idea unless it’s gone viral somewhere beforehand (here’s looking at you Terrifier franchise).

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set for release in summer 2026 but no matter who you spin it, it wasn’t ever called for, needed or asked for.

Yet it’ll still do absolutely incredible and that’s all they care about.

I feel as though all of the greatest cinematic classics will get remade or follow-ups to the point where the original films integrity just starts to decompose.

A really sad state of affairs.

At this point it’s easier to just get AI to write these films and then get a machine to write the very words that you see on the screen before you right now.
