Veejoy is a free online streaming service provided by German theme park Europa Park and in their recent upload they go into the behind-the-scenes of their first internationally released animated feature film Grand Prix of Europe.
Did you know it takes a whole week to create 6 seconds of animated footage? Well, you do now and that’s the scale of a production that was going on over at MACK One in Germany as six years of production has led to this very moment to bring Grand Prix of Europe to life.
Our documentary features Michael Mack who is producer, CEO & founder of MACK One and he is joined by Steven Gätjen as we dive into Michael’s childhood of living at a theme park and how MACK One and this animated feature film came to be.
From original concept to the storyboarding and animation sequence the Making-Of Grand Prix of Europe tries to condense quite a lot of information into a short 30-minute runtime documentary and whilst it bounces around on a surface level regarding the many departments that create this film I feel we get a nice overview as opposed to an in-depth deep dive.

In one scene we jump from storyboarding to the final render in about 5 seconds and as someone who is very interested in more of how something like that is pieced together I was just wanting a little bit more depth to the show.
But what we did end up with is a rather lovely celebration of a labour of love, six years of work is a lot to condense down into 30 minutes but this particular documentary certainly ticks them off at breakneck speed.
Veejoy is an absolutely incredible platform where a theme park has broken the mould and stepped up their content game. unlike any other park around the world. From behind-the-scenes construction documentaries, animations, shorts and more they have it all! Highly recommend!
I highly recommend checking it out and you can watch the making-of documentary HERE.
It won’t be long until Grand Prix of Europe is released here in the UK and I can’t wait to check it out but not only that, Europa Park in Germany actually opened a theme park ride dedicated to the film and as a celebration of their 50th Anniversary.
We were kindly invited to the park (well, my spin-off page Lift Hills and Thrills was) and you can check out that 50th Anniversary celebration and ride VLOG below:
