Tim Allen, star of “Toy Story 5” and voice of Buzz Lightyear, has revealed he believed the popular film franchise would end after its third installment. The 72-year-old actor will reunite with Tom Hanks’ Woody in the fifth film, after Woody famously became a “lost toy” in “Toy Story 4.”
Speaking to Radio Times, Allen reflected on the reunion and the franchise’s longevity, which began in 1995. “I thought (Toy Story 3) was the end of it,” he confessed.
He pushed for a specific moment: “I said (to the filmmakers) that I had such a hard time saying goodbye to this man in (Toy Story 4) that you’ve got to have a moment where they connect and Buzz sees that he’s back. That moment is simple and short, but it happens.”
Co-star Hanks, known for Forrest Gump, shared his emotional recording experiences: “We’ve had more than one moment where we were in a recording studio and we were undone emotionally and had tearful drives home.”
The latest adventure sees the toys, including Joan Cusack’s character, grappling with new technology after their owner, Bonnie (Greta Lee), acquires a smart tablet.
Pop superstar Taylor Swift announced in June that she penned an original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” for the movie, fulfilling a “dream” of hers.
