Bluey will hit the big screens in 2027 as a Bluey feature film has been announced for a cinematic release and then a streaming release on Disney+, ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia.
The BAFTA-winning children’s show is getting its first feature as BBC Studios are teaming up with Disney for this project as Bluey along with her mum, dad and little sister go on even more adventures in feature film format.
Bluey creator Joe Brumm said:
I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new ‘Bluey’ story to the big screen.
Originally co-commissioned in 2017 and made by Ludo (an Australian production company) Bluey took the world by storm and has seen an explosion in popularity across the world.
Only this year my local theme park Alton Towers introduced a meet and greet with Bluey and rumours are circling that a brand new children’s rollercoaster planned to open in 2026 could very well be Bluey themed, but the verdict is out on that one.
Bluey is available in more than 140 countries and was 2024’s most-watched series globally on Disney+.
Winning numerous awards the feature film details are few and far between but what has been confirmed is that voice actors from the show will return for the feature. These include Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit Heeler.
Must for the feature film will also be created by show composer Joff Bush.
Daley Pearson and Charlie Aspinwall, Co-Founders and Directors, Ludo Studio, said:
Over the past eight years, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside an extraordinary team of more than fifty artists and producers whose talent, dedication, and creativity have shaped ‘Bluey’ into the beloved series it is today. Their work has paved the way for this incredible opportunity to expand ‘Bluey’s world onto the big screen. We’re excited to continue showing Queensland as a home for world-class talent and to share a new beautiful ‘Bluey’ story by Joe Brumm with families around the world.
