Charlie Sheen is back in business and teaming up with old friend/nemesis (depending on what day it was) Chuck Lorre joining the HBO Max series How to Be a Bookie.
The pair have put aside their differences and Variety first reported the news that Sheen will recur in the upcoming series which also stars Sebastian Maniscalco.
The series has been ordered for October and I absolutely can’t wait to see what they’ve conjured up with Sheen and Lorre being famous for working together on the hit CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men.
Sheen was earning an absolute fortune per episode and the show earned four Emmy nominations. Sheen left the series in its eighth season amid a public meltdown and relationships soured between Sheen and Lorre as a result.
Whilst fans eagerly anticipated Sheen’s return to the series (with Ashton Kutcher stepping into his shoes alongside Sheen’s former co-star Jon Cryer) sadly it never came as Lorre killed off the character in the series finale.
How to Be a Bookie has been given an eight-episode order as co-creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay tell the story of Danny, a veteran bookie who struggles to survive the impending legalization of sports gambling, increasingly unstable clients, family, co-workers, and a lifestyle that bounces him around every corner of Los Angeles, high and low.
Omar J. Dorsey, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, and Jorge Garcia also star in the new series.
I look forward to seeing what they conjure up and whilst the name of the show doesn’t really pop off the page at me the mere thought of Lorre and Sheen working together has me immensely excited about what’s to come. 12 years we’ve been waiting for the wounds to heal and it looks as though finally the pair are ready to make TV history once again!
