Now, if you’re a film buff and an escape room enthusiast and a horror fan on top then Escape IT, inspired by the IT horror movies is certainly one escape room you need to check out when you’re next in Skegness!
Located at Skegness Pier these escape rooms were rather well-themed as you’re instantly in a boiler room then straight down into the sewer for your experience.
Escape IT has just enough winks and nods to the film but it doesn’t overpower the nostalgia on you, it’s rather subtle as you make your way through a variety of puzzles with a heavy reliance on padlocks of varying nature to unlock your queues.
For the most part the clues are straightforward but on three occasions we did ask for help (with a simple wave at the CCTV a clue will pop up on the in-room screen) but that was because the room wasn’t always as linear from start to finish with a few curveballs and some little head-scratchers when it came to a few of the puzzles.
What worked well within Escape IT was that there was a cool atmosphere with just enough of a challenge to keep you hooked.
There are multiple rooms within the maze which is always nice to have as you can bounce between rooms and whilst it was quite simple in its execution (no heavy reliance on fancy tech activations here) it works quite nicely and fits in with the retro 80s vibe that the IT movies deliver.
So whilst the flow between clues wasn’t as smooth sailing as paper boat down into a sewer drain the maze has just enough to keep it fun, frantic and immersive.
Skegness Pier staff were lovely and friendly and the price-point for the escape room wasn’t too bad at all with it being around £44 for four of us which at around £11 each isn’t too bad at all.
We also noticed that the pier building itself was full of very affordable drinks and even food starting at £1 for a burger. It was a very affordable venue with even two games of bowling being priced at £30 for 4 of us which considering it’s £10 a game at my local bowling alley is quite the bargain.
I’d say Escape IT is a perfect escape room for beginners, our group aren’t exactly escape room junkies and we made it out with 13 minutes remaining of the 60 minutes allotted time.
Good value, an engaging 60 minutes of escape room fun and housed inside a venue that has just about everything for you to keep you occupied (perfect for rainy days!) all day long.
