Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra triumphed in 2022, and the winning country normally gets to host the next edition.

However, Russia’s invasion and the ongoing war in the country means Ukraine will not be able to host given the security risks.

Sam Ryder was runner-up, and the UK was therefore invited to act as a host for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest.

There are certain criteria to host including proximity to an airport, accommodation and a venue which can accommodate at least 10,000 spectators.

Several cities applied to host the annual music competition.

And bookmakers Betfair believe Glasgow is the frontrunner at 5/4 after the final shortlist was drawn up.

Birmingham, who recently hosted the Commonwealth Games, are next at 2/1 (from 3/1), ahead of Liverpool (5/1) and Newcastle (9/1).

Leeds and Manchester are locked together at 12/1, with Sheffield the outsider at a huge 33/1.

Belfast and Aberdeen were amongst the other cities hoping to be selected but failed to make the final list.

Betfair Spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom said: “The seven cities nominated to host Eurovision have now been confirmed and we make Glasgow the favourite, the Scottish City has been well backed and it has been the favoured choice of punters for the last couple of weeks.

“Birmingham is currently second favourite at 2/1 and they have recently proven they can host a major event following the Commonwealth Games and I’m sure there will be another huge Brummie welcome for Eurovision if it is to be held there.

“Looking further down the list, Sheffield is the most unlikely at 33/1, Newcastle is in the running at 9/1, with Leeds and Manchester 12/1.”
