Here’s Some Of the Best Chandler Bing Moments in Friends

In memory of the late Matthew Perry we’ve put together just 10 of the best Chandler Bing moments in Friends.

Friends Poster

News was announced (via TMZ and other sources) last night that Matthew Perry, the actor who plays Chandler Bing in the hit TV series Friends had sadly passed away.

Matthew Perry was 54 when he died as responders found him unresponsive in his home after an apparent drowning.

Messages of love poured over social media like nothing I’d ever seen before as the man who brought laughter to millions of people around the world growing up had sadly died.

Warner Bros Television Group said in a statement:

“We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry. Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros Television Group family. The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans.”

NBC, the network that aired Friends, said:

“He brought so much joy to hundreds of millions of people around the world with his pitch perfect comedic timing and wry wit. His legacy will live on through countless generations.”

But it wasn’t just Friends that made Matthew Perry a household name with stints on The Odd Couple TV series, Go On and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip just a handful of shows on his resume.

For me, like many others Chandler Bing is the character that will always stick with me when it comes to Matthew’s line of work. So funny, so self deprecating but with a kind heart and a solid character that was beautifully written and portrayed by a beautiful but in his own words ‘troubled’ person.

We dive into just 10 (there are many, many more) of the best Chandler Bing moments in Friends as his memory is forever immortalised within the incredible work and performances he portrayed.

These moments showcase Chandler’s unique brand of humour and illustrate why he remains one of the most iconic characters in television history.

This list was that difficult to put together we couldn’t even single out specific moments (there’s just too many) so we’ve added a few personality traits within the 10 because they ooze throughout the series of this truly wonderful character.

Chandler’s Middle Name

Out of all the middle names in the world there is one name that you absolutely didn’t expect to be linked to Chandler and that name is Muriel.

The middle name is revealed in Season 7 and his reaction and friends’ teasing has solidified this moment as one of the most iconic.

It didn’t matter how much embarrassment Chandler suffered, he made the moment funny and endearing in equal measure. These moments added depths to his character whilst providing us with laugher along the way.

Chandler’s Third Nipple

In the thanksgiving incident in Season 1 Chandler accidentally reveals his third nipple. Chaos ensues as he tries to divert attention away from his friends newfound discovery and this nipple reveal is referenced multiple times throughout the entire show.

Could I BE Any More…

Chandler’s catchphrase certainly did the rounds throughout the TV show, very quickly becoming a trademark of his humour. He would emphasise on the BE and other characters would pick up on his pronunciation of this phrase throughout the show.

Most hilariously it is Joey’s impression of Chandler saying exactly this that teases Chandler and this playful banter between them both just solidifies their on-screen relationship as best friends.

This recurring comedic device exemplifies his wit and self-deprecating humour.

Fear of Commitment

Chandler is unable to hold down long term relationships and when the show first starts he’s very picky and picks fault with people so easily that he pushes absolutely everyone away.

The second he pushes people away (Janice for example) he does everything he can to claw them back as he still doesn’t want to be alone but the serious conversations about commitment scare him off enough to hammer home many a laugh-out-loud moment.

Chandler’s Job

Chandler has a boring job that absolutely nobody around him can actually say its name.

The writers keep his profession vague on purpose as Chandler becomes a mystery and as well as his friends being in the dark about what exactly it is that he does, we the audience also get the same treatment.

For the last time Rachel, no he is not a transponster!

Chandler’s Dance

In Season 9 Chandler’s dance moves add further awkwardness to how his character doesn’t like public attention as his moves during a beach party are about as awkward as you can possibly imagine.

His dance has become an instant classic moment in Friends history and it’s one you can watch over and over again and smile each and every single time you do so.

The WENUS

Chandler’s fascination with the “WENUS” (Weekly Estimated Net Usage Systems) at his place of work is a prime example of his humour blending into his professional life.

The fact that he can’t even say the word without bursting into a smirk or laugh is quintessential Chandler as his bizarre childlike fixation on the acronym is hilarious to behold.

Bromance

Alongside co star Matt Le Blanc, Chandler and Joey become the two most iconic male character relationships in the entire show. Their friendship was something that everyone could relate to and their antics carried some of the series best comedic moments.

Ross (David Schwimmer) was peppered here and there within the trio but it never lived up to the heights of the Joey and Chandler friendship.

Chandler Bing, with his razor-sharp wit, memorable catchphrases, and unique brand of humor, has solidified his place as one of the funniest characters in television history.

Endeared to Friends fans around the world Matthew Perry may have struggled during his time on set but when that camera was rolling his ability to combine sarcasm with sincerity, often in the most awkward of situations, made him one of the best TV actors of all time.

When the emotional episodes dragged in his sincerity we cried with him, when his sarcasm and wit exploded on screen we laughed with him and after news of his recent passing, the whole world will now mourn him.

Rest in peace Chandler Bing, you were loved and you will be missed.
