MIAMI — Israel Adesanya finally got his revenge against Alex Pereira.
Adesanya, the former UFC middleweight champion, came in 0-3 versus Pereira in kickboxing and MMA matches. The “Last Stylebender” reclaimed his belt with two vicious right hands that landed flush on Pereira’s chin, forcing the referee to end the match. Adesanya is now the UFC’s first two-time middleweight champ.
In the co-main event, Gilbert Burns was dominant against Jorge Masvidal, winning by unanimous decision. After starting his career fighting in the streets of South Florida, “Gamebred” shed his gloves and announced his retirement from the sport in front of his hometown Miami fans.
