YouTuber Markiplier’s Iron Lung movie has nearly already quadrupled its budget as analysts are taking note of this rapidly rising film in the box office further proving that cinema isn’t dead!
Winning the Thursday previews with $3.5 million and with an estimated $8.9 million on Friday Iron Lung instantly overtook the Sam Raimi directed horror film Send Help starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brein.
Projections are as high as $17 million for the weekend and with a budget of under $3 million this is quite the achievement for the YouTuber.
The film has certainly been a hit with fans but naturally that will always be the case with the loyalty of YouTube fans but critics have been less favourable with a 50% critic score based on the early reviews that have come out so far.
Whilst the films performance would usually scream SEQUEL in the eyes of Hollywood I hope that Mark takes a more conservative independent stance on this one and just celebrates a well-deserved cinematic win without the need for greenlighting a sequel, spin-off or anything of the sort.
It’s just nice to see his fans supporting not only him but theatrical filmmaking and further keeping cinema very much alive and well.
The fact that this is an entirely self funded independent creation is also a testament to Mark and his team with many cinemas nowadays just showing the same old stuff rehashed and rebranded along with sequels and spin-offs.
Yawn.
We need more movies like this and more passionate filmmakers allowing their creations to be seen on the big screen!
