A Saw X first look image was revealed today showing Tobin Bell in all of his glory back on the big screen but with a release date change announcement to go with it as the movie is being released one month early!
Originally heading to screens on October 27th Saw X has been bumped up one month in advance to September 29th for a theatrical release.
More information about the film was today revealed and we also know the timeline of the movie and when it will take place within the Saw universe.
Saw X will take place between the events of Saw I and Saw II as a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. The infamous killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps.
The cast for Saw X is set to include Renata Vaca (“Midnight Family”), Paulette Hernandez (“Crown of Tears”), Joshua Okamoto (“Control-Z”), Octavio Hinojosa (Come Play With Me), Synnøve Macody Lund (Ragnarok), Steven Brand (The Sandman) and Michael Beach (Dahmer).
Lionsgate hopes to recapture the magic that the original Saw movies had with Tobin Bell at the helm in addition to Shawnee Smith who has been confirmed to return for this particular instalment.
They had the following to say about the films announcement:
The return of Tobin Bell to the franchise furthers Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures’ goal of a film that captures everything Saw fans love about the franchise, while also keeping them guessing with all-new traps and a new mystery to solve.
Kevin Greutert who directed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter is back at the helm. Many don’t know that Kevin also edited Saw I through V and even Jigsaw so he’s firmly embedded into the Saw universe and is the perfect person to helm the latest instalment.
The synopsis of Saw X certainly raises more questions than answers them. As you can clearly see in the first look image, Tobin Bell is considerably older than he appears in Saw 2 (the film that would take place after this one in the timeline) so how are they going to explain that?
I hope we don’t see a digitally de-aged Tobin from start to finish, that would be a poor move and absolutely ruined the opening of the recent Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny film. It was horrendous during the movie sequences.
Will we see the return of the baseball cap turned backwards just like in Saw 3D to represent a younger John Kramer (a genius and hilarious production choice)?
It’s also an interesting choice for John to go to Mexico randomly and take his games across the border. The story also needs to hold up as a direct prequel to Saw II so getting back from Mexico to set up the games for Saw II will also need to be factored into the equation.
I’m a huge Saw fan, always have been, always will be and I’ll watch it no matter how bad it was (I’ve seen Spiral 10+ times to further prove my point) pushing the date back is a strange one, it’s not Halloween without Saw but I look forward to what they deliver all the same.
Can’t wait any longer to check out more Saw goodies? Head on down to Thorpe Park and ride Saw the Ride, the world’s first horror movie rollercoaster. It was only a matter of weeks ago we did their behind the scenes tour where we explored the ride (and a few production used props). Check out our review of that experience HERE
Or want a more hands on experience then head on down to the Saw Escape Experience in London where you can take on Jigsaw’s games first hand! Check out our VLOG of that experience HERE
