Here’s the latest Australia-UK co-production hitting the market.
Solly McLeod (House of the Dragon), Robyn Malcolm (After The Party), Katie Leung (Bridgerton) and Richard Roxburgh (Rake) are fronting Careless, a thriller series for Australian streamer Stan and UK net Channel 4.
The Stan series has gone into production in Sydney and Glasgow, and is being made by Colin From Accounts maker Easy Tiger Productions and The Tattoo of Auschwitz producer Synchronicity Films in association with Channel 4, Nine Network, All3Media International and Screen Scotland, supported by Screen NSW. Helen Fitzgerald (The Cry) and Louise Fox (Broadchurch) are the creators.
Mabel Li (The Testaments), Thomas Weatherall (The Narrow Road To The Deep North) and Alison Peebles (Dept. Q) also star in the show, which is being billed as a “seductive” thriller.
Here’s the plot: “When Scottish backpacker Robbie (McLeod) finds himself in Sydney, he is determined to become a live-in carer for a notorious rock’n’roll legend, Mike (Roxburgh), who has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. To his delight, he nails the interview and gets the gig.
“But, as he grows closer to Mike, he also grows closer to Mike’s wife Angela (Malcolm), and becomes a confidante to both Mike and Angela. As Robbie integrates himself further in their relationship, it becomes clear there’s something in Robbie’s past which may put Mike and Angela in serious danger.”
Fox has written episodes 1, 2 and 4, with Christian White writing episode 3. Stevie Cruz-Martin (Safe Home) is the director. Angela Littlejohn is producing with Ian Collie and Rob Gibson as executive Producers for Easy Tiger, alongside Claire Mundell and Deanne Cunningham who are EPs for Synchronicity. Fox and Adrian Burns are also EPs, alongside Stan’s Michael Healy and Andy Ryan, and Kieran Hannigan for Screen Scotland. Polly Scates pre-bought the series for Channel 4.
All3Media’s sales arm, All3Media International, will shop the show. Here are two more images.
