The 2025 BAFTA Nominations ANNOUNCED


BAFTA has today announced the nominations for the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards with Conclave leading the way with 12 nominations!

14 out of 24 nominees in the performance categories have received their first BAFTA Film nomination, including Yura Borisov (Anora), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain),  Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez),  Clarence Maclin (Sing Sing), Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance), Guy Pearce (The  Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez), Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice) and Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice). 

The ten films with the most nominations are as follows: 

  • 12 nominations for Conclave
  • 11 nominations for Emilia Pérez
  • Nine nominations for The Brutalist
  • Seven nominations for Anora, Dune: Part Two and Wicked
  • Six nominations for A Complete Unknown and Kneecap
  • Five nominations for Nosferatu and The Substance

  The following films also nominated include: 

  • Three nominations for The Apprentice, Blitz, Gladiator II, Sing Sing, Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl and The Wild Robot
  • Two nominations for Flow, Hard Truths, The Outrun and A Real Pain
  • One nomination for each of the following: All We Imagine As Light, Better Man, Bird, Black Box Diaries, Daughters, Heretic, Hoard, I’m Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui), Inside Out 2, Kensuke’s Kingdom, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, The Last Showgirl, Lee, Love Lies Bleeding, Monkey Man, Nickel  Boys, No Other Land, Santosh, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Sister Midnight, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story and Will & Harper

It’s great to see Demi Moore nominated again as we feel that 2025 is her year to scoop up every single award this season with a BAFTA and Oscar in her sights (fingers crossed).

The following British shorts were nominated: Adiós, The Flowers Stand Silently Witnessing, Marion, Milk, Mog’s Christmas, Rock Paper Scissors, Stomach Bug and Wander To Wonder

 

 Former rising stars Cynthia Erivo (2019) and Timothée Chalamet (2018) are in the mix and in the Best Director category. three of the six are first-time Director nominees (and nominees for Original Screenplay): Sean Baker (Anora)  (who has the most nominations this year, with five), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist) and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).

The 42 films nominated today span a fantastically broad spectrum of genres with enormous breadth in creative expression; from  the most intimate character pieces to epic societal commentaries via genre-bending dramas, musicals and comedies. The film industry has delivered in spades once again. We look forward to acknowledging this amazing body of work at the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards.  With just over a month to go, we encourage film fans everywhere to watch as many films as possible – there really is something for everyone. And, depending where in the world you live, please tune in on 16 February to BBC One, iPlayer, BritBox, and many other  platforms worldwide.

From a total of 235 films entered, we are delighted to announce 42 extraordinary and creatively ambitious films that have been nominated. The skills on display from creative and technical practitioners across the board are phenomenal. I look forward to  celebrating the many talented people in front of and behind the camera at the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2025 ceremony on 16 February.

Congratulations to all the 42 films nominated today. The selection of films is an incredible showcase of the very best in creative talent working in filmmaking today in Britain and globally. I’m delighted that 14 of the 24 nominees in the performance categoriesare receiving their first BAFTA film nomination and that 12 of the nominated films are directed by women. Our BAFTA voting members now have the unenviable task of selecting the winners which will be celebrated at the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards on 16 February.

The EE BAFTA Film Awards will be held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and will be broadcast on Sunday 16th February on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK.
