“Mate, this has been four years in the making,” Lane told Wide World of Sports of his wide ball-running and offloading and sparkling combination with five-eighth Dylan Brown.
“It’s all a process and we have had our ups and downs since we both arrived here in 2019.
“But now we have been playing alongside each other for a while and know each other’s games.
“Brad (Arthur) lets us play what we see and encourages us to back ourselves and we both like to have a go if we see something is on.
“We are the top offloading team in the comp and while it is sometimes risky, it is definitely one of our strengths.
“I feel Brad has handed us a big role and we are enjoying it.”
Lane also puts a good pre-season down to his breakthrough year.
“I trained really well in the summer but then got hit with a few niggles – I did a hamstring and got a few bumps and bruises that wouldn’t go away.
“I’m still carrying a few injuries but so is just about every player in the comp – it’s what you do this time of year.
“Bottom line I feel I am in the groove, so is the team so we just play through the pain and hope the results keep coming.”
