There’s been a lot of scary movies in 2024 and we have a definitive Top 10 list to share with you today courtesy of research from Rant Casino.
This post is not sponsored in any way shape or form we are simply sharing the research which they have conducted as searches for the top 10 Halloween films has skyrocketed online by 5000% over the last month.
Not only has the list been finalised but they’ve taken the Top 5 and utilised AI to reimagine the movie posters for each one with some surprisingly interesting results.
There’s been a rather strange variety of horror movies released this year and seeing Longlegs in at number 3 does make me question who was surveyed as it wasn’t scary, in fact, Longlegs may just be the worst horror film I’ve seen in many, many years!
In 5th place is Abigail, my favourite horror film of 2024 and whilst it wasn’t a scratch on my favourite horror movie of 2023 in Talk to Me it still provided everything a solid horror film needs and was a fun watch.
Let’s take a look at the Top 5 results along with their AI-generated posters:
Alien: Romulus
The AI software used to make this poster has done quite a lovely job here in my opinion, it definitely has that air of quality and intrigue to it that surprised me when I was sent it for the first time.
Alien: Romulus went down a storm this year and I actually haven’t seen it (I know, I know) so I could very well be missing out on one hell of a movie with an impressive average scare score of 31.3.
While it’s often described as more unsettling than outright terrifying, with a “creep factor” of 8.8 out of 10, Alien: Romulus still landed an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes so it’s certainly on my last to catch up with as soon as possible!
Oddity
Claiming the title of the second most terrifying movie of the year is Oddity, scoring an impressive 30.5 on the scare meter.
The film follows a blind psychic, haunted by the loss of her twin sister, as she embarks on a chilling journey to solve the murder—with the unsettling help of a wooden mannequin guiding her to the truth.
With a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes this is one film that deserves to be seen, unlike this next one…
Longlegs
After all the hype surrounding this movie with people claiming it’s the scariest film of the year, I actually was tempted on numerous occasions to walk out of the cinema,
An atrocious piece of filmmaking about a psychically gifted FBI agent who gets pulled into a disturbing hunt for a serial killer, whose crimes are as unsettling as they are sinister.
Even the AI software knows it’s bad as it’s created the worst poster of the bunch with this one!
The less I say about this film, the better. Let’s move on!
The Strangers: Chapter 1
A reimagining of the original The Strangers, this version follows a couple stranded in a remote cabin, where they are ruthlessly taunted by masked strangers with no mercy in sight.
With jump scares aplenty the film sadly scored very badly on Rotten Tomatoes but managed to make it into 4th on this list.
Abigail
A film that for me could easily make top spot in this list or second if indeed Alien: Romulus is as good as people say, Abigail revolves around a seemingly innocent 12-year-old ballerina who harbours a dark secret – she’s a soul-sucking vampire.
With a solid 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes Abigail went down a treat with fans and critics alike and is certainly one to watch in 2024.
I’m also extremely grateful that Terrifier 3 came out towards the end of the year because if the list was based on gore alone it would be number 1 rather easily without competition.
