I feel like it’s my birthday and Christmas come at once as the news I’ve been waiting for is finally here, the Wayans Brothers are returning to the Scary Movie franchise.
The movie reboot was announced recently at CinemaCon but no further details were revealed.
Scary Movie was initially developed by Shawn, Marlon and Keenen Ivory Wayans with Keenen writing and directing the first two movies whilst Marlon and Shawn wrote and starred in the first two films.
Today Marlon Wayans took to social media to announce that he will be returning to the franchise and the movie will shoot next year for a theatrical release as The Wayans and Rick Alvarez are writing and producing the movie.
Miramax Boss Jonathan Glickman told Deadline –
We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.
Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans also said:
We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters where they belong. It’s a double reunion.
It was more than 20 years ago since the Wayans created the Scary Movie franchise and I hope that they stick to the original Scary Movie roots and not bow down to woke culture which has rendered comedy movies obsolete for quite some time now.
Scrolling through box office comedies of the last five years there are very few being released as people seem afraid to say certain jokes anymore. I hope Scary Movie throws caution to the wind and delivers that classic Scary Movie essence as opposed to any watered-down woke nonsense but knowing the Wayans and Rick Alvarez are onboard gives me confidence they’ll stick to the OG roots.
Alvarez wrote such Marlon Wayans movies as Fifty Shades of Black, Sextuplets and Naked all films that go against the grain of Gen Z watered-down viewing material.
Marlon also featured in the Haunted House franchise which in a similar vein to Scary Movie spoofs a variety of horror movies in a wonderfully hilarious way.
Scary Movie fans rejoice, there may be life in the franchise yet!
