The hero car used on screen is up for grabs in Abu Dhabi this November as Bonham’s announced this week that the Wolf of Wall Street Lamborghini for sale.
Presented in its ‘as-filmed’ condition this lot comes with an original cast wardrobe, cast-signed props, crew gifts and more as one lucky winner can own this time capture of one of Martin Scorsese’s finest films.
Wolf of Wall Street is one of my favourite movies without a shadow of a doubt and how Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t win an Oscar for this role yet won it for The Revenant is beyond me.
This (for me) is single-handedly one of Leo’s best character roles and he blew me away in every single scene.
The Lamborghini car in its beaten up state will join Bonham’s exception line up for its inaugural sale as the official auction partner of the Formula 1 Paddock Club. On the Grid: The Abu Dhabi Auction on 25 November.

The car will be offered at an estimate of US$1.5-2 million.
The 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary comes directly from one of the filmmakers of the critically acclaimed box office hit and is presented in ‘as-filmed’ condition, preserved as a time-capsule of the film and the era’s extravagant debauchery.
The Lamborghini plays a key role in a scene with Jordan Belford (Leonardo DiCaprio) a charismatic stockbroker who climbed to wealth and power through unethical and fraudulent activities on Wall Street during the 1980s and 90s.

After taking a drug Leonardo stumbles out of a building and attempts to drive the car. The car appears in the scene for 3 minutes and 11 seconds of the film.
During these scenes, DiCaprio desperately crawls toward the Hero Car, uses his foot to pry open one of its scissor doors, and then struggles to pull himself inside. Once inside the Hero Car, DiCaprio engages in comically slurred phone conversations and recklessly drives himself home, seemingly without incident.
The Hero Car went on to star in the subsequent scenes where Belfort’s actual chaotic drive home is revealed in flashback. During the drive, he collides with several vehicles and objects.

The Hero Car was used in the actual stunt sequences, which included swerving with its scissor door open, collisions with other vehicles, and hitting various objects such as a sign and a mailbox. The damage sustained from the stunts was deemed not severe enough.
Per the direction of Scorsese, the crew used an additional car and a flatbed truck to inflict further damage to the Hero Car to achieve a more wrecked appearance. The iconic sequence reaches its climax with Belfort’s arrest outside his home, leaving behind the unforgettable image of the wrecked Lamborghini Hero Car in the audience’s memory.
During filming, the production also rented a second Lamborghini to serve as a Backup Car. This Backup Lamborghini, chassis number ZA9CA05A0KLA12722, only appears on screen for approximately 16 seconds in two brief shots.

The first, shot by the second unit crew with a stunt driver, and the second, where it is only partially visible, and DiCaprio’s character is briefly seen exiting it. Compared to the Hero Car’s action-packed 3 minutes and 11 seconds of iconic screen time in all major scenes with DiCaprio.
The hero car has been preserved since filming wrapped and still remains in its on-screen condition and this will be officially the first time the car has been offered to the public.
The car will come complete with a Jordan Belfort costume featured in the Hero Car scenes, a director’s chair and clapboard, both signed by Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Robbie, two exclusive crew hoodies, two DVDs of the film, and letters of authenticity from key members of the filmmaking team.

One such letter states, “the Lamborghini Countach with VIN ZA9CA05A6KLA12692 is the one and only Hero Car used in The Wolf of Wall Street.”
