Gen Z ‘Too Soft’ To Watch Horror Movies A Study Reveals

During a recent poll, it was revealed that Gen Z are too scared to watch horror films as a new breed of ‘snowflakes’ (48% of them to be exact) will avoid them altogether whilst 77% of them just don’t like the genre.

100 Horror Movies You Need To See In Your Lifetime

The Great British public however certainly outvoiced this small minority as 60% of Brits said they love a good horror film with the over 40’s in particular (45%) being the biggest horror fans.

This study of 2000 film lovers from research and insights agency, Perspectus Global, has revealed the best-loved horror film is 1973’s The Exorcist, picking up a whopping third of the votes.

The Exorcist was directed by William Friedkin and stars Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Jason Miller, and Linda Blair.

When The Exorcist was originally released the graphic nature of the scenes on screen caused many viewers to faint and even vomit, oh how times have changed as horror has desensitised us all over the years but it seems as though Gen Z are reviving that sensitivity for future generations.

The survey revealed the Top 30 greatest horror films and we have the list displayed below

Most of the top films were classics but the most modern movie which scored highly on the list was A Quiet Place which picked up 11 percent of the vote.

“Despite younger generations not being keen,  horror movies are still enjoyed by six in ten Brits,” says Jon Horsley, from Perspectus Global who commissioned the research.

“And despite a host of modern horror films having been released in recent years, it was great to see the CLASSICS, like The Exorcist and Halloween remain our favourites, even half a century after they were made.”
