Juliette Lewis Makes Surprise ‘Cape Fear’ Cameo

SPOILERS: This post contains details about the Cape Fear episode ‘Phantom Sensations’

After 35 years, Juliette Lewis has returned to Cape Fear River in the latest adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel The Executioners.

On Friday’s episode of the Apple TV+ series Cape Fear, the Oscar-nominated actress made a surprise cameo as someone from Max’s (Javier Bardem) past, following her portrayal of Danielle Bowden in the 1991 Martin Scorsese-helmed feature adaptation.

In the episode ‘Phantom Sensations’, Lewis mostly appears in a hoodie and face mask, stalking the ex-convicted felon until he gets home to find that she’s broken into his house and left him a video message, which sends him into a violent rage.

Also making a cameo in the episode is Martin Scorsese’s daughter Francesca, playing an influencer discussing the case in a video on social media. Martin serves as an executive producer on the series with Steven Spielberg.

Created by Nick Ancosta, Apple TV’s Cape Fear stars Javier Bardem as brutal ex-con Max Cady, who goes after Tom (Patrick Wilson) and Anna Bowden (Amy Adams), the married couple who represented him 17 years before in court.

In the 1991 adaptation, Robert De Niro starred as Max Cady, with Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange as Samuel and Leigh Bowden. At age 18, Lewis earned her first Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her performance as daughter Danielle.

The first adaptation of MacDonald’s book premiered in 1962 with the J. Lee Thompson-helmed Cape Fear, starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum.
