A brand new Indiana Jones ride is coming to Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in 2027 and D23 (a huge Disney convention in the States) revealed extra details ahead of its big opening next year.
This brand new ride will replace the Dinosaur indoor dark ride that has operated at Animal Kingdom since 1998 and will be reimagined into Indiana Jones: The Myth of the Jade Serpent as Indy comes face to face with his biggest fear, snakes.
Located within the brand new Tropical Americas land the ride will feature the first ever Audio-Animatronic of the one and only Harrison Ford who’s likeness will be recreated within a Disney park for the first ever time.
Keeping in line with the essence of Animal Kingdom the park is dedicated to creatures both real and imagined. The ride will take guests beneath an ancient temple ruin highlighting Maya culture and its profound connection to nature.
The storyline revolves around guests joining Dr.Jones on an exploration of a mysterious temple near a once water-filled underground cave, called a cenote. Legend has it that the passageway leads directly to the Maya Underworld but is protected by a serpentine creature named the Tsukán.
Riders are unwittingly sucked through to the portal to the Underworld where they will have to escape dangers, monstrous bats, larger-than-life scorpions, fire and flame and of course, snakes.
If you’ve got a fear of snakes it’ll certainly be a test for you (myself included) as the big finale will have you face to face with the very myth that Indy has been exploring.
